Bonding jumpers should be as short as practicable and installed so that the resistance of each connection does not exceed 0.003 ohm. The jumper should not interfere with the operation of movable aircraft elements such as surface controls, and normal movement of those elements should not damage the jumper. Nonconducting finishes such as paint and anodizing films must be removed from the attachment surface, and electrical wiring should not be grounded directly to magnesium parts. Aluminum alloy jumpers are recommended for most cases, while copper jumpers should be used to bond parts made of stainless steel, cadmium-plated steel, copper, brass, or bronze. The use of solder to attach bonding jumpers should be avoided, and tubular members should be bonded by means of clamps to which the jumper is attached.
Remember the attachment rule as a pair: avoid solder on bonding jumpers, and bond tubular members with clamps that hold the jumper. A jumper carrying substantial ground return current must still have an adequate current rating and a negligible voltage drop.
