BACKGROUND

For a small general aviation airplane used privately there is no FAA requirement for periodic reweighing, but after each annual inspection the mechanic must ensure the weight and balance data in the records is correct. The FAA also requires that the airplane always have a current and accurate weight and balance report. If that report is lost, the aircraft must be weighed and a new report created. A new report is also needed after extensive repair, major alteration, or installation of new equipment such as a radio or GPS.
