Show the answer and explanation

Correct answer: C. A serious condition to monitor

  • A — incorrect Immediate attention or action is the meaning assigned to red, the color for an unsatisfactory condition.
  • B — incorrect A satisfactory condition is announced by green, not by the caution color.
  • C — correct Yellow is used to caution of a serious condition that requires further monitoring.

BACKGROUND

An annunciator panel is a panel of warning lights placed in plain sight of the pilot, each labeled with the name of the system it represents. The lights are covered with colored lenses so the meaning of the condition can be read at a glance. Standardized colors differentiate the messages: green indicates a satisfactory condition, yellow cautions of a serious condition that requires further monitoring, and red indicates an unsatisfactory condition needing immediate attention or action. The same color convention is used whether the indication is part of an instrument face or of a separate visual warning system. On complex aircraft, centralized warning systems collect these messages so that many systems can be annunciated in one organized place.

STUDY TIP

Tie each color to the action it demands: green means carry on, yellow means watch it, red means act now.

KEY POINTS

  • Green announces a satisfactory condition.
  • Yellow cautions of a serious condition requiring further monitoring.
