  1. AAn airport/facility entry published in the Chart Supplement
  2. BA distant (D) NOTAM from the control tower

Show the answer and explanation

Correct answer: C. A flight data center (FDC) Notice to Airmen (NOTAM)

  • A — incorrect The Chart Supplement is a standing publication. A TFR is a temporary restriction and is designated by an FDC NOTAM, not a Chart Supplement entry.
  • B — incorrect TFRs are designated by FDC NOTAMs. They are not issued by a local control tower as a D NOTAM.
  • C — correct The study guide states that a flight data center (FDC) NOTAM is issued to designate a TFR, and that the NOTAM begins with the phrase FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS.

BACKGROUND

Section 107.47 requires a remote pilot in command to comply with §§ 91.137 through 91.145 and 99.7, the rules on flight restrictions in areas designated by Notice to Airmen (NOTAM). The Remote Pilot Study Guide explains that a flight data center (FDC) NOTAM is issued to designate a temporary flight restriction (TFR). The NOTAM begins with the phrase FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS, followed by the location, the effective time period, the area defined in statute miles, and the altitudes affected, plus the FAA coordination facility and telephone number and the reason for the restriction. TFRs are established for purposes such as protecting persons and property from a hazard, disaster relief operations, preventing congestion of sightseeing aircraft, and protecting the President and other public figures. Checking NOTAMs is part of flight planning.

STUDY TIP

Associate TFR with FDC NOTAM and the opening words FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS. Check for TFRs before every flight; incursions have led to certificate suspensions.
