BACKGROUND

Appendix B to 14 CFR part 43 normally requires FAA Form 337 in at least duplicate: a signed copy to the owner and a copy to the FAA Aircraft Registration Branch within 48 hours. Paragraph (d) adds a special rule for extended-range fuel tanks installed within the passenger compartment or a baggage compartment. In that case the person performing the work and the person authorized to approve it under § 43.7 execute the form in at least triplicate, with one completed copy placed on board the aircraft as specified in § 91.417, one given to the owner, and one forwarded to the FAA within 48 hours after the work is inspected. FAA-H-8083-30B chapter 2 summarizes this as an additional copy that must be signed and in the aircraft at all times.
