BACKGROUND

Section 65.83 of 14 CFR part 65 lists three kinds of qualifying activity for recent experience: serving as a mechanic under the certificate and rating, technically supervising other mechanics, and supervising in an executive capacity the maintenance or alteration of aircraft. Paragraph (b)(4) adds that the mechanic may be engaged in any combination of those activities. The requirement is at least 6 months of such activity within the preceding 24 months. The handbook restates this as any one or a combination of the listed activities. A mechanic who cannot show 6 months may still exercise privileges if the Administrator has found the mechanic able to do the work under § 65.83(a).
